Your
Voice Can Make a Difference.
Advocacy
is a major component of the Alzheimer's Association mission. Advocacy is
practiced in various ways. Seeking medical care for a loved one suffering
from AD or a related disorder is one way. Writing letters to State and
Federal representatives on behalf of the AD patient community is another.
Through many different means, people with Alzheimer's and related disorders,
their caregivers, friends and families raise their voices together as a
powerful tool for change and hope of a future without Alzheimer's.
Alzheimer advocates are calling for advancements in research and enhanced
care and support at the federal, state, and local levels. With your help,
improvements have occurred nationally (increases in federal research funds),
statewide (growth of state services) and locally (community based programs
helping raise awareness for AD). However, opportunities exist to improve
and expand current services and programs in addition to creating new
services and programs as appropriate and unveiled through research. These
advancements will only continue to grow in number in the future.
You can make a difference in our battle
against Alzheimer's disease. It is you, the AD patient, caregiver, friend,
and/or family member who knows best about policies and programs regarding AD
care. It is you who can determine the fate of those issues, get others
involved, and spread the need for action. We invite you to become an
advocate.
Yes! I'd like to become an Alzheimer's Advocate. I would like to be kept
up-to-date on advocacy issues and have the opportunity to participate in
grassroots advocacy activities, including Action Alerts! when you
need me to contact my elected officials. *
